EFFECT OF NEW BILL HOUSE DEBATE OPENS ■ (P.R.) WELLINGTON, Doc. 8. When the measure be rure law and uu.s an honest attempt to' administer it the Dominion would be the richer for it ’and a substantial improvement wo ok! bo made in the milk supply of the community, said Mr. W. A. Bodkin (Opp., Central Otago) when, the committee discussion on the Milk Bill was opened in the House of Representatives last evening. Dealing with the evidence given before the Milk Committee. Mr. Bodkin said the proposal made-by the Christchurch City Council was worthy of consideration —the elimination oi tubercular cows. Every member of the committee would have been de- . ru j chert to the proposal, hilt it opened up a big question and be- committee came to the conclusion it was not 7 possible to make proposals to meet the position. One great difficulty which would have had to be overcome was the price to be paid to the dairy farmer. Mr. W. T. Anderton (Gov., Eden), .’nairman of the committee, said the bill protected the interests of the producer, whose position had been substantially improved. Although the bill did not go all the way. he would personally wish it to go. Il went as far as it was possible to make it cm the evidence submitted. Mr. A. S. Sutherland (Opp, Hauraki) said he was sorry the bill did not adhere more closely to the report of the Milk Commission, especially in the sct-iju and its relation to the central authority. Progress was reported.
