POLICE FAREWELL

SGTS. MILLER AND TEECE HIGH PRAISE VOICED High praise for the efficient_ manner in which lliov carried out their duties while attached to the Gisborne police station was voiced by the inspector, Mr. 1). A Mae Lean, on the occasion of the farewell and presentation to Sergeant W. E. Miller and Constable (now Sergeant) M. C. Teece at the Gisborne station yesterday.

The inspector spoke of the good work performed by both Hie departing officers and the other members of the staff, and the- happy relations which existed between .all. He referred to Sergeant Miller’s new post, saying that it would be a difficult one. and also spoke of the long and competent, service in Gisborne and the well-deserved promotion of Sergeant Teece.

A presentation was made to each of the departing members by SeniorSergeant ‘H. H. Russell, who also made eulogistic references to their services. Other speakers were Detec-tive-Sergeant R. 11. Waterson. Detective T. Sneddon, and Constables G. Waple, J. Gedyc and J. Stewart. Sergeants Miller and Teece suitably replied, thanking the inspector and staff for their kind words and also for their help and co-onoration throughout their service in Gisborne.

Sergeant Miller leaves to-morrow to take up his position as officer in charge of the Wairoa station. He was stationed in Gisborne for nearly two years. His successor will be Sergeant C. II Reardon, who is expected to arrive within the next few days. Sergeant Teece left this morning for Auckland, where he will serve his probationary period. His service in Gisborne extended over 10 years. A replacement has not vet been named.
