INQUEST IN PADDOCK

An unusual incident marked the burial of a Maori child at Pukehou cemetery. Hawke’s Bay. Belated information concerning the cause of death necessitated the ordering of an inquest, and rather than delay the burial arrangements Were made for the inouest to be ooened in a paddock adjoining the burial ground. The inquest was accordingly opened in a motor car in the paddock. Evidence of identification was taken and the Proceedings were then adjourned. Thereafter the interrupted burial took piaeo.
