Fewer Bobby Calves
The bobby calf season in the Gisborne district, which will conclude with the collection to be made on Tuesday—instead of Monday as in the past—lias shown a decided' shrinkage in the number of calves handled. One reason for the falling-off in numbers is that fewer cows are being milked in the district, many former dairyfarmers having given up the industry. A contributing factor, no doubt, is the retention on farms of a larger proportion of heifer calves, the remaining dairy-farmers having realised that these animals, when reared, will have a high value in the face of the exnandina demand for young slock.
