Estimated on the rale of construction and sinkings of American ships since Pearl Harbour, says the United States magazine Collier's, the tonnage of the merchant fleet of the United States is expected to be equivalent, by the end of 1944, to two-thirds of the pre-war merchant tonnage of the entire world.
