SHARP FIGHTING
INDIANS IN BURMA STORMING OF PEAK (10 a.m.) KANDY. Oct. 27. Sharp fighting followed an attack by troops of the Fifth Indian Division against a Japanese strong-point on Sialam Vum. a peak to the north of the Tiddim-Fort White road : ays a South-east Asia communique. The enemy remains in position astride the road 11 miles from Tiddim. The Associated Press corresp' nclenl states that Sialam Vum. 0040 feet high, is the northern end of a chain of heavily-fortified peaks which the Japanese are trying to stem the 14th Army troops’ advance through the Chin Hills along the road Iron Tiddim to Fort White. troops, in flank thrusts, twice .'ought their way into tiie main Japanese position on Sialam Vum aeainst savage resistance, but were finally compelled to withdraw when the enemy was reinforced from other positions.
