JAP. REMNANTS
HARRIED BY ALLIES CAMPAIGN IN BURMA (11.30 a.m.) KANDY. Sept. 7. In the jungles beyond the Chindwin the remnants of the routed Japanese forces are collecting after their disastrous flight across the river, says the Associated Press correspondent. Even now, with the river separating them from the 14th Army, the harrying. of these broken formations still goes on as our aircraft hunt out and bomb the camps where they are reforming. The Japanese who chose the river route of escape are heading south in every available craft, travelling by night and lying up by day. An additional 150 dead were found at Tlianan, on the Hwemate escape route. About 110 miles of the Tiddim road is now cleared.
