Producing Munitions
Proof of the valuable place in industry which can be filled by blinded men is given by the successful work which has been undertaken bv six totally blind men for the past six months in a large Wellington factory engaged in the production of munitions. The men are keen to make a success of their jobs, if only to point the way for other employers to assist in the rehabilitation of blinded exservicemen from this war. Water Supply Scheme Estimated to cost £23,000, when the full scheme is completed and to provide 1,000,000 gallons of water every 24 hours, proposals for an auxiliary water supply for Whangarei have been submitted to the Whangarei Borough Council. The scheme, as suggested by the borough engineer, Mr. I. A. Cromie, calls for the pumping of water from the Hatea River, at the north-eastern end of the town, and the provision of a filtration plant. The water from this river has been passed by the Health Department.
