LIEUT.-COL. R. R. T. YOUNG MAORI BN. COMMANDER ip.A.) WELLINGTON. May 8 The King has approved the aware ->i' the Distinguished Service Order to Lieutenant-Colonel R. R. T. Young officer commanding the Maori Battalion. Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Lieutenant-Coioue Young’s next-of-kin is his wife, Mrs D. Young. Wellington. He is accd 42 years and was wounded in December. 1943. In civil life a company executive in the employ of the Shell Oil Company (N.Z.), Limited, at Wellington Lieutenant-Colonel Young for .many years prior to the war was aetive.y associated with the Territorial Foice. He was commissioned in 1921 as a second-lieutenant and was posted lx the Wellington Regiment. He attained captain’s rank in 1925. anc tj ir ee years later was posted to the •reserve of officers. He returned if the active list in 1940. and later sailed' with the Fifth Reinforcements tr a captain in the infantry Pie attained his majority in July. 1942. Yl'tor a short period as commandant of the New Zealand School if Instruction. Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force (Middle ? , , earlv last year he was appointed second in command of the Maori Battalion and a few months ago officor commanding with the rank ol ’lieutenant-general. a dcsontch from Lieutenant-Gen-eral Sir Bernard Frcyberg. V.C., in April of this year stated that Lieu-tenant-Colonel 1Y citing was “leading the battalion with skill and courage.” ________
