BRAVEST DEED AWARD

BOY RESCUES GIRL RUGBY, May 8. The Amy Johnson gold cup for courage has been awarded to Bernard Roy Butler, aged 13, of Hull, who, the trustees agreed, performed the bravest deed in 1943. Butler volunteered to rescue a girl who fell through the ice on which she was sliding into deep water. The ice broke under Butler as ho attempted to walk to the girl with a rope tied around him, but he succeeded in reaching the girl and both were dragged to safety. The late Miss Amy Johnson bought the cup from the gifts she received in Australia after her flight froth England in 1930. It is awarded annually to the boy or girl of her native city who shows the greatest cdtirage.
