OBITUARY
MRS. C. D. ARMSTRONG The death occurred yesterday after three months’ illness of Mrs. Constance Durell Armstrong, widow of the : late Mr. Chas. E. Armstrong, a former district engineer and mayor ot Gisborne. Mrs. Armstrong was i 3 years of age. . Her birthplace was Castlewellan, County Down, Northern Ireland, and she was the second daughter of the late Captain W. M. de R. Barclay, of the 24th Queen’s Light Infantry Regiment; and grand-daughter of David Barclay, Bt., and Lise Jos-ethe, daughter of the Marquis de Rune, of Picardy in France. Her father was in the Indian Civil Service after his retirement from the army, and left India for New Zealand, settling with his family in Tauranga, and later in Wellington. Mrs. Armstrong was married in Wellington, and in 1904 accompanied her husband to Gisborne, where he was in charge of the early railway construction, and held the appointment of district engineer: Mrs. Arfnstrong was closely associated with the women’s organisations of Holy Trinity Church, and 'during the last war she took a prominent part in patriotic work as a member of the Women’s Patriotic Committee. Her family consists of two daughters Mrs. T. D. Buswcll, Wellington, and Mrs. J. Miller, Gisborne and three sons, Squadron-Leader E. W. Armstrong, R.A.F., London, and Messrs. Geoffrey W. Armstrong and. Chas. E. Armstrong, Gisborne. The funeral will take place to-day from the Holy Trinity Church, following a service at 2 p.m. The graveside service will be at the Taruheru cemetery.
