Te Hapara Bus
Sir,—-The 4.15 pan. bus from the Post Office is one of the few that goes via Stanley road and Childers road, arid is a boon to those who reside in the State houses and the vicinity. For this concession the fare is 5. This -bus is' always overcrowded. Can anyone explain why the fares alighting at Cook street and Wellington street are allowed to monopolise this bus, ride twice the distance, pay a fare of 4d arid so. rob the would-be 5d fares of this concession. What would happen if all the fares paid 4d and aslced Cook street? ■ “PUZZLED” [The apparent discrepancy in fares referred to in the above letter is due to a Transport Department instruction, issued when the State house buses were included in the daily schedules. The fare to the intersection pf Stanley road and Childers road is. 4d, but passengers alighting between that corner and Lytton road pay sd. The 4d fare for Cook and Wellington street passengers is the normal fare from the Post Office to their intersections by the normal route; and the borough bus department cannot increase their costs simply because the bus' takes a longer route! Nor can it prohibit Cook and Wellington'street passengers from using the buses running by ysay of the State ■’ house block.—Ed. Hcrald.J '’
