ASSISTANT director > W. YATES APPOINTED (P.R.) WELLINGTON, March' 14. Mr. William Yates, secrexary of the National Broadcasting Service, has been appointed Assistant Director of Broadcasting. The Director is Professor James Shelley. Mr. Tates has had long administrative experience of broadcasting and has been closely associated' with the actual production of programities as a performer, producer arid author. He was born in Lancashire and came to New Zealand iri 1012; joining the Education Department two years later. - Mr. Yates,'who is a member by examination of the New Zealand Society of Accountants,' was chief -accountant of the Unemployment Board from 1930 ‘to 1934' when he joined the National Broadcasting Seryice as supervisor Qf plays and general executive officer. He has been associated with the presentation of plays and sketches over the radio since 1929. On the death of Mr. E. G. Hands, business manager of the National Brqadcating Service, Mi*. Yates becaine secretary of the service.
