RAILWAY RESTRICTIONS
iP.A.) WELLINGTON. Feb. 1. The president of the Racing Conference. Mr. H. R. Chalmers, referring last night to the effect of the railway restrictions on racing, said that the clubs had a duty to the owners, trainers, jockeys and others dependent on the sport for their living and wherever it was at all possible they should hold their meetings. it was not wise, said Mr. Chalmers, for any club to rush in and cancel its engagements without first investigating every possible means that might avoid cancellation.
