(11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jari„ 19. Flight Lieutenant R. J. Jail, of Christchurch, who is in a Typhoon squadron which destroyed,eight enemy machines over northern France while being technically off duty on Thursday, was formerly a member of the New Zealand Typhoon squadron from which he was transferred recently. The New Zealand squadron, which did not participate in that -action, is now commanded by an Englishman who succeedad Squadron Leader, I. D. Waddy, of Blenheim. Squadron Leader Waddy served with the Squadron for two years, rising from Flight Sergeant to Commanding Officer. His tour has now expired. He is now a flying instructor at an operational training unit. , Wing-Commander D. J. Scott, of Greymouth, who also formerly commanded the New Zealand Typhoon squadron and then led it in a wing, has now been transferred. He’’commands a fighter station. ■ His rapid promotion from Flight Sergeant to station commander in under two years is remarkable promotion and' an outstanding achievement.
