MARINES FINISH OFF
INVASION TRAINING
ASSAULT CRAFT CREWS
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 16.
The Royal Marines, who will be in the first wave of the invasion from Britain, are putting the finishing touches on training as flotilla officers, coxswains and crews of the landing craft which will be the first on the enemy beaches. At the training base they are exercising manoeuvres and landings. Bigger landing craft still are commanded by naval officers and manned by naval ratings, but the small assault boats which land the infantry are being taken over by the Marines. Many important lessons learnt in Sicily and Italy are being passed on to the men who will take part. The instructors are naval officers brought back from the Middle East for the purpose.
