ALLIED PLANES’ TOLL
ATTACKS IN AEGEAN

(9 a.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 17. During the past few days aircraft from the Middle East added to their previous successes against ships attempting to supply enemy-occupied islands in the Aegean area, states a communique irom the Middle East air headquarters. On Thursday, escort vessels and two luggers were attacked north-east of Shydra, in the west Aegean Sea and iett on fire and out of control. Two launches off Mykenos, in the southwest Aegean, were attacked, one catching fire. The same day shipping in Rhodes harboui’, gunposts and enemy troops in the vicinity were attacked.
On Friday four sailing ships in the harbour, of Paros Island were bombed. When our aircraft left a large fire wfis burning and a pall of smoke was obscuring the ships. On Saturday a series of low-flying attacks were made on sailing vessels in the harbour at Paros and Amergos Islands and at sea near the Seriphos and Anaphi Islands. Seven large vessels were damaged. One was left sinking and another in flames. A formation of MElo9’s made several attacks on our aircraft without result. From these and other operations one aircraft is missing, but the crew is safe.
