AMERICAN DROWNED

SYDNEY. Jan. 11. An American soldier on leave was drowned at a Sydney swimming resort. The American was a staff-sergeant, aged 34 years, who was caught in a strong undertow on the southern end of Bondi Beach. Life-savers brought him back to the beach after a difficult struggle against tiie undertow 100 yards out to sea. Eastern Suburbs ambulance officers assisted by life-savers applied resuscitation methods for some time without result.
