SOUTHLAND DISPUTES
i p.A.) INVERCARGILL, Jail. 15. As a result of some misunderstanding, tlie workers at the Star mine. Ohai, ceased work and to their homes yesterday morning. The cause of the misunderstanding was brought about by the suspension of a coal miner on Thursday when, it is believed, there had been some dispute about wages. The matter was dealt with yesterday morning by the secretary of the Milters’' Union, the manager of the mine, and the miner concerned, but the workers did not wait to hear the decision and returned home. The inch will return to work on Monday morning.
The workers at the Linton coal mine held a stop-work meeting on Wednesday morning to discuss various mining matters. After a discussion lasting more than two hours they decided to terminate work for the day. Work proceeded normally on Thursday. MILLERTON GRIEVANCES (P.A.) WESTPORT, Jan. 15. At a meeting of the Millerton Miners’ Union it was decided to resume work on Monday. A deputation is proceeding to Wellington to discuss outstanding grievances.
