AUSTRALIA AND N.Z.
COMMON POLICY DESIRED
CONTROL IN PACIFIC
(11 a.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 15. At the conference in Canberra between representatives of the Australian and New Zealand Governments, it was hoped to bring about a very close Understanding between the two Dominions, and at the same time join in making a notable contribution to future good Government in all countries of the South-West and South Pacific, said the Minister oi. External Affairs, Dr. H. V. Evatt, last night.
Frequent discussions between the representatives of the two Governments had assisted and splendid work had already been done by the respective High Commissioners. Gradually there would be a full appreciation of each other’s aspirations and ideals. This would enable both Dominions to take an important place which, because of their long-sustained and resolute war effort, was their undoubted right and destiny, ■ especially in the Pacific areas.
The Australian Government will_ be represented at the Canberra conference by Mr. J. Curtin, Dr. H. V. Evatt, Mr. F.’m. Ford, Mr. N. J. Makin. Mr. A. S. Drakeford. Mr. J. B. Chifley. Mr. E. J. Ward and the Australian High Commissioner to Now Zealand, Mr. T. G. de L. D'Alton. Mr. Fraser yesterday visited the New Zealand war unit rooms and Mrs. Fraser was a visitor to the American Red Cross centre. Mr. and Mrs. Fraser last night dined with Dr. Evatt.
