JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

ORDER. OF ST. JOHN

The jubilee celebrations of the foundation of the Order of St. John were held in Auckland on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The principal functions were an inspection of over 2093 members of the brigade by the GovernorGeneral. Sir Cyril Nowall, and a church parade and investiture at St. Mary's Cathedral. Auckland and visiting officers met at a conference on Saturday morning, the commissioner of the Auckland district, Mr. D. F. Mackay, presiding. In his address at the parade and inspection of the senior divisions and cadets of the Order of St. John, the Governor-General stated that the people of Auckland should be proud of the movement. He paid particular, attention to the cadets, and said that the proportion of the movement in New Zealand was higher than that in any other Dominion. He suggested that more people should join the organisation, which was the oldest order of chivalry in the world to help mankind and to assist, in the relief of suffering. His Excellency congratulated the parade on its display. Gisborne was represented at the celebrations by the district officer, Mr. C. E. Bickford.

The annual street clay appeal of the Gisborne association will take place next Friday.
