TAXI DRIVER CHARGED
CASE DISMISSED
A charge against William Robert •Jardinc, taxi driver, of a breach of the motor vehicles act in that he failed to keep a proper look-out was dismissed by Mr. E. L. Walton. S.M., in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Evidence called by Senior-Sergeant H. H. Russell was given by William John Wellfarc. who stated that on September 10 lie had been cycling up Gladstone road when he was suddenly struck by a car backing 'out from the kerb. lie could not remember what had happened but had been taken to the Cook Hospital by the defendant. He had received a bad cut on the left leg and had remained in hospital for six weeks. Constable G. Knox stated that he had accompanied the defendant when he had taken the boy to the hospital. . , A statement made by the defendant declared that lie had sounded his horn before backing out, but that he could not see the boy coining along owing to a car being parked on his left.
