HIGHER PERCENTAGES IMPROVEMENT ON COAST An almost general improvement ■tookN place in the lambing percentages in the Gisborne and East Coast districts this season, compared with those of last year, the northern end of the East Coast enjoying the greatest improvement. Out of the five counties providing estimates of their percentages to the Gisborne office of the Department of Agriculture, only one showed a decline, this being the Uawa County, which declined by .34 per cent. The highest percentage was in the Cook County, which usually holds the top price, and did so this year with 8G.14 per cent. The following are the estimated percentages for the live counties for the current year, compared with the figures for last year:—

The Cook County average was only twice higher in the last 15 years, these occasions being in 1932 and 1933, when the particularly high level of 91 per cent was reached. This year’s Matakaoa figure is higher than most, while the Uawa figure is about normal. Waiapu has had only two better seasons', and Waikohu only three better seasons in the past 1.5 years.
