WOMEN’S CHARTER
AUSTRALIAN DEMANDS HOME ENDOWMENT AID SYDNEY, Nov. 23. • An Australian women’s charter of about 50.00 words was adopted by an Australian women’s conference, which has now ended. It demands, among other things, an endowment from the Commonwealth Government to “women home-makers” of at least 30s a week. The chairman of the conference, Mrs. Jessie Street, described the recommendation as “epoch making. The charter demands hn improvement in the legal status of women, including amendments to the Married Women’s Property Act to provide for community of interest in property acquired after marriage toy either party, other, than by inheritance. The * full ’charter embodies all the resolutions passed by the conference. It demands that no discrimination be made in the rights and responsibilities of men and women as. citizens, equal pay for work and encouragement for women to take part in all phases of public life. i , ~ The conference also seeks wide representation” for women at the international peace conference.
