LARGE JAP. SUBMARINE OFF AUSTRALIAN COAST (10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, Nov. 24. The probable destruction of a very large enemy ocean-going submarine off’ the east coast of Australia by two Royal Australian Air Force Beaufort bombers some months ago was announced to-night by the Minister for Air, Mr. A. S. Drakeford. The attacks were carried out at close range. The submarine was severely damaged, said the Minister. It disappeared leaving oil slick covering a patch two miles iong by a quarter of a mile wide and it is considered unlikely, if not impossible, for the submarine to have reached its base. No casualties were suffered by the bomber crews.
