WOMEN JURORS
FIRST AUCKLANDER (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. The’ first woman to be called for jury duty in New Zealand is Miss Elaine Kingsford, l , Takapuna. She says she is looking forward to the experience of sitting on a jury when the Supreme Court session opens next week, but she may bedenied the opportunity on account of shortage of staff in the Takapuna Borough Council’s office, where she is employed. This is a matter that will have to be discussed with the sherrifT, or submitted to the judge.
Miss Kingsford, mentioned above; is not the first woman in New Zealand to be called for service on a jury. Prior to the last session of the Supreme Court in Gisborne, a woman who had volunteered for jury work had received a summons to attend on the second week of the sitting, but she was not required to attend, for all the business was completed during tire first week.
