SPANISH DEMAND
RETURN OF MONARCHY PETITION BY GENERALS (10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. Many of General Franco’s most powerful army officers have petitioned him for the restoration of the monarchy, says the Daily Express. The petitioners included General Saliquet, Military Governor of Madrid, General Orgaz, High Commissioner for Spanish Morocco, General Moscardo, Military Governor of Catalonia, and General Kinderlan, GovernorGeneral of Majorca. Three months ago General Franco dismissed 23 members of the Cortes for presenting a similar petition, but the Daily Express adds that tills time the generals seemingly mean business. The Pretender to the Spanish throne is Don Juan, the late King Alfonso’s youngest son, who is at present living in Switzerland.
