NAVAL DENTAL WORK

N.Z. OFFICER IN CHARGE CENTRE IN SCOTLAND (Special Correspondent.) LONDON, Aug. 11. Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander A. C. Horne, R.N., of Invercargill, is m charge of the Royal naval dental centre'in Scotland which is responsible for thousands of men and women. He has a staff of three, surgeon lieutenants. Surgeon Licut.Commander Horne said: “We examine officers and men from ships based here once every six months. We lit in appointments when the ships are in harbour. We have found a consulnumber of new entrants to tne Royal Navy have never visited, a dentist before in their lives. Most of them expect to be tortured but we explain that with modern dental surgery there is not need to feel pain. The laboratory in making dental plate's used more than 16,000 artificial teeth during the. past six months. Acrylic resin is being used instead of vulcanite for the plates.
