"Curfew on Cats"

Sir, —I read the letters in the paper on the eat nuisance. It is certainly not pleasant to hear catawauling ' cats holding midnight revelry in one’s garden: on the other hand, what about the rats and mice? Would it not be better to endure a slight inconvenience from the cats than find oneseli being eaten out of house and home by the rats, etc. Possibly it' investigations were to be made jlie complainants or others near them own female cats. TABITHA PRICHARD. Sir, —I have been reading letters in your paper complaining of cats. Now I see our local borough council is advertising free rat poison. So what is it to be, cats or rats, that we are to exterminate? I for one know what destruction rats cause where wooden buildings are concerned and also the cause of many lires. so if we dispose of the cats then we can expect a rat plague, and, as everyone knows, the rat is the largest disease-carrier of all OBSERVER.

[This correspondence is now closed. There is no by-law bearing on the control of cats, as in the case of dogs. The matter appears to be one for the attention of individual owners.—Eel. Herald.]
