Mr. and Mrs. W. Sherriff, Ormond, have returned From il visit to Wellington and Hawke’s Bay. Mr. and Mrs. A. Jacobs, Mrs. G. D. Little and Mr. McParland, Wellington, wore visitors to Gisborne for the Bush—Bousfield wedding. Mrs. It. Bush, who was a visitor to Gisborne for the marriage of her son. Squadron Leader C. It. Bush, to Miss R. Bousfield, left on Tuesday for Napier en route to Wellington. Second-Lieutenant J. A. Parsons and Mrs. Parsons, accompanied by their infant son, Anthony John, wtio have been the guest of Mrs. Parsons’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myles Boyle, Gisborne, have left on a short visit to Auckland. Weather conditions were not particularly pleasant yesterday afternoon and consequently the Stabluford bogey match conducted by the Poverty Bay Ladies’ Golf Club lrow a smaller Held than usual. Mrs. A. Russell, with a 2‘i Stableford, handed in the best card. ENGAGEMENT Wilson—Miller.—An engagement is announced between Driver Roy J. Wilson, Second N.Z.E.E.. Middle East, and Jennie Oiilgliesh, youngest daughter of Mrs. Miller and the late Mr. .1. Miller, Craig road, Gisborne. TARUHERU LADIES’ SOCIAL CLUB Play was supervised by Mr. A. MeColl at tlie fortnightly progressive five-hundred party conducted by the Tnruheru Ladies’ Social Club at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Biggar, Cameron road, on Tuesday night. Six tables were requisitioned, and honours were secured by Mrs. F. E. Ovenden and Mr. Henslip, other prizes being awarded to Mißs C. Roe and Mr. E. Roe. Following supper, dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr. L. Cook. DICKENS’ CLUB The monthly meeting of the Gisborne Dickens’ Club, held at the home of Mrs. E. Hampton, Derby Street, on Monday, took the form of a social afternoon. The chair was taken by Mrs. N. Hooper. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs. H. T. Sinclair and family in their recent bereavement. A short programme included a vocal solo. “My Ain Folk," by Mrs. K. R. Hill: an elocutionary item, "The Rehearsal," by Mrs. Hooper, and a whistling number by Mrs. A. Scott. Mrs. D. Blair contributed “Give Me a Home,” a song recently written by herself. Interesting competitions wore won by Mesdames Hooper. Scott and V. Clement. A delicious afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Simmons, Hamilton and Mawson. “MISCELLANEOUS” GIFT PARTY Prior to her marriage to Squadron-Leader C. R. Bush, R.A.F., Miss R. Bousfield was the chief guest at a cheery G o'clock tea party given by the Misses L. Witters, T. Morice and J. Wuucliop. f The occasion was informal, and during the evening the bride-to-be, assisted by her prospective bridesmaid. Miss J. Bennett, opened an inviting array of gift parcels. Miss Bousfield was wearing a smart frock of dusky pink cloque accented with embroideries .in a deeper shade of pink. Among those present were Mesdames R. Stokes, R. Orchiston. T. Hansen, and E. That the objert was popular was demonstrated, not only by the large attendance of dancers, but also by the contribution to the function of muchappreciated donations by the townspeople of Gisborne. i The music was supplied by Barry Sheet’s ; orchestra, and the programme included Monte Carlo waltz and lucky spot competitions. Private E. Scholium, W.A.A.C., was \ responsible for the extras. In connection with the excellent supper arrangements, invaluable assistance was given by personnel of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps. Mrs. Randall Sherratt presided over a very good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, held in the Parish Hall, Derby street, on Friday afternoon. A new member from Wairoa, Mrs. Paget, was enrolled, and Mrs. Mogford was warmly welcomed back to the branch.

A delightfully interesting talk was given by Mrs. Lonie on her life in West Africa, whore she assisted her husband. Dr. Lonie, in his medical work. In conveying the thanks of the members to Mrs. Lonie, Mrs. Sherratt presented her with a charming posy of flowers. Afternoon tea was served under the direction of the group leader, Mrs. E. R. Renner, who had the assistance of Mesdames Paviour, Thompson, Morrison, Lange, F. PI. Lange, C. Tietjen. M. Moore, C. Stevens, J. Mo nekton. \Y\ Wilson, Hewitson, and Beets.

The annual meeting’ of the Gisborne branch of the League of Mothers, held in Le Grand Cafe on Tuesday afternoon, was wellattended.

A Scripture reading was contributed by Mrs. Hutchin. and Mr. A. Baillie was responsible for the “thought” for the month. The president, Mrs. E. A. Muis, made sympathetic reference to the bereavements suffered by Mrs. J. W. Fergie and Mrs. A. Baillie, members standing in silence as a tribute of respect.

The correspondence dealt with included a letter from a soldier serving overseas thanking the league for a much-appreciated parcel. The annual report was read by the secretary, Mrs. Beale, and the treasurer, Mrs. F. R. Hill presented a very satisfactory financial statement.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: President, Mrs. E. A. Muis; vice-presidents, Mesdames C. Tattersfield, D. McKeague, and Wallis; secretary, Mrs. P. Beale; treasurer, Mrs. F. R. Hill; committee, Mesdames R. Kemp, LI. Meredith, Mangen, Samson, Sindcn, Hankey, Chalmerß, Skeets, N. Hooper and Carter.
