NEW DEPUTY CHIEF

LONG SERVICE IN R.A.F. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 21. Air Commodore Geoffrey Twyforcl Jarman, D. 5.0., D.F.C., Royal . Air Force, who has been appointed deputy Chief of the Air St3lV, has served continuously in the Royal Air Force for the past 13 years. He was born in Ashburton in 1906 and educated at Wellington Boys’ College, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. W. Jarman, Lower Hutt. He represented North Otago at Rugby football and

also took part in territorial and military training. Before sailing for England to join the Royal Air Force he was on the survey staff 1 ' of the Public Works Department.

He was married in New Zealand. ■His wife and two children came out to New Zealand in the late months of 1940, while Air Commodore Jarman joined them a_few weeks ago when he arrived .for service in New Zealand. Air Commodore Jarman’s career began in 1930, when he was accepted for a short-service commission in the Royal Air Force, commencing training ■fate in 1930. He was appointed to a permanent Royal Air Force commission at the termination of his .shortservice commission and was in England when war broke out. He was awarded the D.F.C. in April. 1941, and four months after receiving the D.F.C. received the D.S.O. in recognition of further distinguished service.
