PREMIER’S REPLY
LEADER’S COMPLAINT LABOUR PAPER ARTICLE INFERENCE DISAPPROVED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 21. A reply has been sent, by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, to the complaint of the Leader of the Opposition. Mr S. G. Ilollond. regarding a recent article in the Labour weekly paper concerning the Opposition's attitude towards the war loan. Mr Fraser, in his letter to Mr Holland, states: "I have now read the article to which you call my attention in your telegram of Friday. July Hi. and I have to state in reply that I entirely disapprove of that'portion of it which could be construed as an attempt to associate inferenliallv seme unidentified members of the National Party with any opposition to or discouragement of the third Liberty Loan. I note that you and officials of the National Parly are given credit in the article for supporting the loan and.it was stated definitely that it would be wrong."to suggest that the National Party officially had any part" in what was described as’ "this campaign." I’he country was never more united than it was in support of the loan. Members of all parties, and shades of political opinion joined whole-heartedly in the effort. ‘ The war loan commiltecs. national, district; and local, were composed of representatives of every party and every section of the community. If there were a few discouragers csr saboteurs who endeavoured to retard the success of the loan, they did not have much effect, and I feel certain they were not associated with any party. Please accept, my persona l thanks for the assistance you gave to the war loan campaign."
