MARTINIQUE REJOICES

CHANGE IN REGIME ROBERT DEPARTS LdNDON, July 18. Admiral Robert, with 14 of his administrative officers who elected to stand by him, has gone to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they are under the protection of Admiral Hoover, reports the United Press’ correspondent at Port de France. Admiral Robert’s plans were not announced to the residents of Martinique, who are rejoicing at the prospect of once more eating regularly. Elephantiasis, leprosy and deficiency diseases are evident on all sides. However, rum is so plentiful that it is being used as automobile fuel. When petrol supplies began to run out drivers found that a mixture of 92 per cent of native rum and 8 per cent of petrol drove the engines efficiently.
