The Air Ministry states: “Mustangs on patrol oil' the Dutch coast shot down two enemy aircraft on Saturday morning. Typhoon bombers, escorted and supported by fighters, attacked the enemy airfield at Abbeville on Saturday evening. Two enemy aircraft were destroyed by fighters. Late on Saturday evening Coastal Command Beaufighters, escorted by Spitfires and Typhoons, attacked an enemy convoy oil’ Den Helder and damaged two ships. Four enemy lighters were destroyed. Two Beaulighters of the Coastal Command and six fighters are missing.” A strong force of Allied planes bound for France roared low over Deni and neighbouring parts of the south-east coast this afternoon. After clearing the coast they dived almost to sea level, heading south-east towards Calais and Boulogne. Other formations in waves followed.
