SURRENDER OR DEATH ALLIES’ HARD STRUGGLE Offipinl Wirolens. 1 i!) n,m.) RUGBY. July 18. “It was Mussolini who wantonly appealed to Ihe hard arbitrament of war. and nothing but the repudiation of Mussolini and unconditional surrender can now save the Italian people from its severities.” the Secretary for Air, Sir Archibald Sinclair, declared when addressing the annual assembly of the Liberal Party. He issued a warning that Germany was still immensely strong and had all the industrial resources of Europe at her command. “We must not think, because we are winning victories in the Mediterranean theatre and the Bomber Command is tearing at the very vitals of the German war industries, that the road lies open to Berlin,” he said. “It jr a long road, with many turns, and the Germans will fight hard and furiously.”
