DEHYDRATED SHEEP N.Z. MEN’S SUCCESS Overwhelming success in Australia of a new mutton dehydration plant is reported to have attended the efforts of two well-known New Zealanders, Messrs. Harry and George Tancred, principals in the big meat firm of Tancred Bros. The new plant went into operation recently, and in a letter !o a friend in Auckland, Mr. Harry Tancred states that the official tests were beyond expectations. He was responsible tor the design of the works.

Officials of the Meat Dehydration Section of the New South Wales Deparement ot Commerce watched the first output with great satisfaction. The plant was erected as a war-time measure, and the construction was finished in record time. In the first trial, two tons of dehydrated mutton was turned out in one clay. As a result of the initiative and enthusiasm ot the Tancred Bros, at the Bourke works, 12,000 carcases awaited the first day's efforts. Over 100,000 sheep have been purchased, and constant production is expected during the next six months. It is claimed by experts that the Bourke plant is the most modern in the world as far as performance is concerned. Mr. Harry Tancred is well known in Auckland, and as the recent owner of the champion racehorse, High Caste. He played League tootbail in 1919-21, and was captain ot the New Zealand Rugby League team to visit Australia in 1921. With his brother George, who is well known for sensational betting on Australian race tracks, he took up permanent residence in Sydney in 1923. Mr. Harry Tancred visited America in 1938.
