BOMBING ATTACKS

JAP. SHIPS IN CHINA ; ’ r (9 a.m.) CHUNGKING. July 15. A- communique from LieutenantGeneral Siilwell’s Headquarters states that shipping was attacked in Haiphong harbour, where an oil-tanker was sunk and a mine-layer and freighter damaged. There were near misses on other large vessels. Two Japanese ships at Dalong Bay were directly . hit and a seaplane on the water destroyed. Many warehouses, the pow'er-house and railway yards at Hongai were directly hit, while incendiaries caused large fires. A Chinese communique states:— “Japanese forces striking from Kunlung, on the Yunnan-Burma border, are retreating to their base, and the Chinese have restored their original position. Another enemy thrust against Lungling has been turned back.”
