FULLY SATISFIED
PROGRESS OF ALLIES ALEXANDRIA INSPECTION (9 a.m.) LONDON, July 15. When General Sir Harold Alexander returned from a visit to the Allied troops at the front, he appeared fully satisfied with the progress of the invasion, says a representative of trie combined British press at Allied headquarters in North Africa.
General Alexander saw something' of Ihe country in which the Allied troops were lighting. The narrow, tortuous roads through the hills favour defence. Our troops at many points are finding the country more difficult than northern Tunisia. The fact that the Luftwaffe has done so little initially strengthens General Alexander's belief that it has been over-worked by die German High Command and is losing its taste for combat. During the three hours General Alexander spent on the island lie motored along some of the narrow roads running through the hills and passed a number of burnt-out German tanks.
