HAWKE’S BAY SEAT

WAIROA NATIONAL RALLY

Described as one of the most enthusiastic National Party rallies seen in Wairda for many years, the gathering on Thursday night, which met the official National candidate for Hawke s Bay, Mr. E. N. Pryor, launched the camoaign by appointing a large committee ' representative of the whole district. The chair was occupied by th.c Mayor, Mr. H. L. Harker, who introduced Mr. Pryor and also Mr. G. Baiilie, chairman of the Hastings Branch Of the party, and Mr. K. Tabley, the official organiser. Mr. Pryor revealed himself to be a forceful and convincing speaker and greatly impressed his hearers. Mr. D. (I. Withers was appointed chairman of the \Vairoa committee and Mr. R. M. Mowat secretary.

The candidature of Mr. C. A. Barren. M.P. for Hamilton, was endorsed by the Hamilton Labour Representation Committee this week. Mr. Barrcll won the scat in 1935. A new woman aspirant to a Parliamentary career is Mrs. L. N. B. Boyle, of Wellington, who has decided to contest the Pahiatua seat as an Independent at the general election. Mrs. Boyle was lor some years a teacher in Hawke’s Bay. Grcymouth and Wellington. She has also had experience in journalism and commercial work, and is at present engaged in the shipping department of the Ministry of Supply.
