SLAUGHTER OF PIGS
NORTH ISLAND CONTROL (P.A.)) WELLINGTON. July 9. A slaughter of pigs control order, published'in the Gazette last night, is designed to regulate the slaughtering of pigs in the North Island by or Oil behalf of the holder of a license fo* a meat export slaughterhouse, the holder of a meat exports’ lieeir..e or a person carrying on business as bacon curcr. „ The order, which is to come into effect on August 2, does not apply ,to pigs delivered by producers for slaughter on their own account. Slaughtering quotas may be fixed from time to time and allocated to operators and other persons and, where detuned necessary, similar quotas may be' fixed tor pigs to be slaughtered in country butchers’ slaughterhouse and, br each case it will be the duty of the manager of the slaughterhouse to see that, the quota is not exceeded. ft will be an offence to deliver'pigs for slaughter otherwise than in accordance with the allocation arid the owner of pigs may ■be directed to deliver .them - for slaughter at such place as may be appointed. The sale of fresh pork was prohibited in May under order which expires at the end of the present month. There has not been any official statement that the order just issued will take the place of the prohibition.
