Gisborne Rugby Players

Mentioned in a report of a thrilling Rugby football match which topk place “Somewhere in New Caledonia,” between teams representing’the Scots Battalion and an infantry battalion is a player from Gisborne. Described by the official war correspondent as a determined winger. M. H. Glassfprd, playing for the Scots Battalion, has been seen for a number of years on the Gisborne Oval and also as a representative for Poverty Bay. The game was an extremely interesting one, there being no score until the last minute, when Scots notched three points from a try which went unconverted. Another former Gisborne player, J. Richards, is mentioned as -playing for a base units team in a match against a team from divisional headquarters.
