UNEXPECTED GAIN

ALLIES SHIPPING POOL 1,700,000 TONS IN QUARTER GO a.m.) LONDON. July 7 British and American shipyards in June built more than 1,000,000 tons more . shipping than the Germans claimed to have sunk in the U-boat war in the month, says the Evening Standard's naval correspondent, The American shipyard deliveries in June give the United States alone practically 1,000,000 tons of new construction above the German claims of destruction for the month. Even accepting the German claims of sinkings, Britain and America in the last three months have gained more than 1,700,000 tons. An unexpectedly huge pool of shipping has been added to our sea supply lines. If this rate is maintained, the Allies will have by the end of the year enough shipping to move 500,000 more men over the invasion route than was anticipated.
