39 JAP. PLANES LOST FIVE U.S. PILOTS SAVED WASHINGTON, April 11. The Navy Department has issued a communique revising the losses sustained by the Allied forces in the Japanese air atta-ck on Allied shipping in the vicinity of Guadatcanar on Wednesday. A destroyer, a tanker and corvette were sunk as previously reported, but a small oil-fuel boat, reported to be sunk, is now stated to be damaged. The number of Japanese planes destroyed in this action has now been increased from 34 to 39. The communique states that additional verification establishes the enemy plane losses as 25 Zeros, 12 dive-bombers, and two of an unidentified type. Of the seven American pilots brought down, five were rescued.
