FLYING MEDAL AWARD
NAPIER AIRMAN SKILFUL NAVIGATOR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 8. Tributes to his skill as a navigator and bomb aimer are paid in. a citation accompanying the award of the D.F.M. to Sergeant lan Armstrong Blaikie, a member of the R.N.Z.A.r. serving overseas. The official notification of the award lias been received from London. . Before the war, Sergeant Blaikie lived in Napier. His father, Mr. J. Blaikie, lives at Greenmeadows, Napier. , _ , During the last six months Sergeant Blaikie ‘ was engaged in, operational flying, and in all aerial assignments he displayed coolness and courage, states the citation. It was in a large measure due to his skilful navigation and bomb-aiming that many successes had been achieved. . .. ... A landscape gardener in civil life, Sergeant Blaikie was bom m Christchurch in 1918 and educated at the Greendale School, Canterbury, and the Boys’ High School. Napier. Anplvinu for service m the Royal New‘Zealand Air Force early in 1940 he commenced his New Zealand training as an air observer later m the same year.
