(P:A.) WELLINGTON, April 9. The appointment of Colonel C. W. Salmon, DiC.M., the present deputy quartermaster-general, as representative of the New, Zealand Chiefs of Staff at headquarters of the south Pacific forces, is announced by. the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser.
During a visit which he' made recently, to Admiral Halsey’s headquarters, the Minister of Armed Forces, the Rt. Hon. J. G Coates, discussed the desirability of making such an appointment which Admiral Halsey readily accepted".
Colonel Salmon, said Mr. Fraser, is an officer with a most valuable record of service arid, as representative of the chiefs of staff at Admiral Halsey’s headquarters, will' serve as a channel through'which the commander can be kept informed of developments in New Zealand and a medium for. communication of Admiral Halsey’s wishes to the chiefs of staff.
