GUARDSMEN GATHER

QUARTERMASTERS’ STAFFS PRESENTATIONS MADE Presentations were made at a gathering of Home Guard ‘'’quartermasters held in the R.S.A. rooms on Saturday night. The principal business of the function was to farewell Lieutenant H. Cropper, former group quartermaster and more recently group adjutant, who is leaving the district, and in handing Lieutenant Cropper an illuminated address the chairman of the function. Lieutenant K. R. Waite, expressed the appreciation of the Gisborne quartermasters at the help that they had been given from the group office. During the evening a presentation was made to Lieutenant Waite, as battalion assistant quartermaster, of a novel gift of an ash tray and cigarette lighter combined, made in a model of C Company’s cooker, being handed over by Acting Platoon Commander G. B. Carter, formerly quartermaster for C Company. _ Presentations were also made to Privates J. Turbitt and A. L. Thorstenson. of the battalion quartermaster's staff, thanks being expressed to them for the efficiency of their work. Members of D Company held a gathering on Saturday night. They met in the Poverty Bay Rowing Club’s shed for the purpose of getting together before Christmas since the company had held no parade since the announcement of the reduction of hours during the summer months.
