SHARKS TAKE TOLL

TORPEDOED SHIP ITALIANS ABOARD (.10 a.m.) PRETORIA, Doc. 13. Six survivors who have arrived at a South African port state that the steamer Amarylis, bound from Suez to Durban, was torpedoed on December 2 off the Natal coast. Sharks took a terrible toll of the swimmers.

Italian prisoners of war from the Amarylis screamed to the U-boat commander for help, but only one was taken aboard the submarine.
