FUNCTION TO MR. ROBERTS

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 14. To permit a full attendance at a smoke concert in honour of Mr James Roberts, one of the .waterfront commissioners and formerly nationalsecretary of the Waterside Workers Union, no work was done on ; the Lyttelton waterfront between 6 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. -on Saturday. Over 300 men were affected. The function was held .by the. .Lyttelton branch of the union. A. cheque was presented to Mr. Roberts.
