RUSSIAN PRISONERS

56,000 HELD IN FINLAND

12,000 MEN PERISH

(British Official Wireless.)

(9 a.m.) RUGBY, Dec. 12. A Stockholm correspondent says that it has been authoritatively reported from Helsinki that Finland holds 56,000 Russian prisoners of war, most of whom were captured last summer.

Nearly 12,000 of the prisoners died, of whom 30 per cent suffered from wounds and the remainder as a result of maladies arising from privations before capture. Field Marshal Mannerheim has appealed to the International Red Cross in Geneva to assist Russian prisoners in Finland.
