SUBURBS OF CAPITAL ALLIED AIR ACTIVITY LONDON, Dec. 2. Allied force headquarters in North Africa state: “The Allied forces in the suburbs area 20 miles west of Tunis repulsed an enemy counter-attack. Bombing attacks on airfields in Tunis and Bizerta continued. Light bombers and fighters have been supporting our forward troops. Seven enemy aircraft have been destroyed and five of ours are missing. The Royal Navy is assisting in the provision of cover for the advance of our forces.” Allied troops have reached the Tunisian coast between Sfax and Gabes, says the Morocco radio. The Allied air force is harassing the Axis supply columns. The British forces are daily receiving important ■ reinforcements of American war material. The Daily Express correspondent at Allied headquarters says that Allied air-borne troops continue to land in strategic positions ahead of the First Army. i Bizerta and Trapani, in Sipily, were bombed on Monday night by Allied aircraft stationed in Libya. Fires were started at the Trapani airfield. Yesterday our twin-engined fighters sunk a south-bound Axis merchant vessel off the eastern coast of 'Tunisia. Fighter-bombers raided airfields in Sicily and scored hits on buildings. Three of our aircraft are missing.
